A Guide To Affiliate Marketing

by Bruce Hoover

Many debates go on about the best affiliate marketing programs and no real winners are found so perhaps it is just best to stick with regular websites. Affiliate marketing is a great way to sell other peoples products etc., while earning a commission. All that is required is a small website to promote the product or service and this can be anything from one page to something much bigger. Unlike applying for a sales position in the real world, on the Internet you get to choose what company you want to sell for.

Before you start you will need to have a product to market so how do you go about this task? Although it may sound like a chore, failing to read and understand a companies affiliate terms and conditions could cost you a great deal of money. If you are taking your business seriously then this is something you would do in the ordinary world so do not be fooled by the ease with which the virtual world appears to work. There are a number of programs that will only pay people if they live in America and can provide their insurance number.

While some affiliate programs seem to be over generous with their payment structure (70 percent or more) those with less than a fifty percent payout should be avoided unless turnover is high. Some of the best information on affiliate marketing is found on Clickbank.com who also promote products and where you can open an account and be paid commission twice a month. It is quite normal to join most affiliate programs for free, after all you are selling their products so be warned about those that ask for a one off membership charge. The majority of programs will use Paypal or Clickbank and both are trustworthy so to ensure you are covered, register with both systems as it is free. While you are still in the early stages of creating an affiliate marketing business it is best to stick with what is safe until you have the experience to experiment with other payment methods.

The Internet has a great deal of information on marketing affiliate products including free e books and plenty of websites if you just spend some time searching; you can decide which are worth adding to your favorites These e books can be a mine of information and will contain many useful urls, however some will link to sites that want you to purchase something; whether you do or not is up to you. In the beginning it is probably worthwhile just using whatever free programs and resources you can that will help you start building a regular income. This use of free products works well because it is a way for you to see whether the person who supplied them knows what they are doing.

Conclusion

Do not forget that many types of advertising still exist outside of the Internet and to be a successful affiliate marketer you must consider these also. The advertising only needs to direct people to your website where if it has been designed correctly, will do the work for you. By using tracking methods (this is necessary and all affiliate marketers do it) you can decide which advertising methods work and which do not. There is a huge amount of freedom associated with affiliate marketing and the potential earnings are massive, but this can take many years to build up. One trap many new people fall into is never actually doing anything to earn the money they desire because they are too busy being permanent students.
